Branch Secretary’s Message
As you will be aware from the Prime Minister’s and First Minister’s news conferences, the country is effectively in a lock down situation. UNISON is fully supportive of the measures that have been taken to slow the spread of COVID-19 and would encourage members to comply with all the instructions that have been given.
Clearly, we also are fully supportive of the organisation’s duty to provide services to those citizens who are vulnerable and at most risk. Council services will have business continuity plans which will now come into play, and if you have been identified as part of these plans we would ask that you comply as far as is possible without exposing yourself to risk or harm.
You will no doubt have many questions about what the Government’s instructions mean for you, but now until we know exactly how the plans will come into play, we cannot provide you with the answers.
Please bear with us until the picture becomes clearer. The Branch will be working with our sister unions across the Council and in the arm’s length organisations to ensure the safety of its members and the public at large.
These are difficult times and you need to look after yourself and your loved ones. Be assured that the Branch will operate as normally as possible during this period.
