It is essential that the branch has a steward for each workplace/section and fills all officer positions. Full accredited training is available locally for all new stewards. Please get together with your work colleagues and nominate someone to act as your steward. The key benefits of doing so are:
· Better representation on grievance, disciplinary and health & safety matters
· Kept informed with regular branch updates (e.g. budget cuts, restructuring, service delivery, pensions)
· Greater participation in the democratic decision making process of UNISON
All existing officers and stewards will remain in post until the AGM but must be re-nominated to continue in post after the AGM so must submit a new nomination form. All nominations should be received no later than noon on Wednesday 12 February 2020.
If you wish to submit a motion or an amendment to the Branch Rules for debate at the AGM, please contact the Resource Centre on 01224 620624 to request the appropriate form which must be returned no later than noon on Monday 24 February 2020.
If you require assistance to attend the AGM please contact the Resource Centre. In addition if you require a signer, please get in touch.
The AGM agenda and reports will be available at the meetings or in advance from Grampian Resource Centre on 01224 620624 and on our website.

Getting involved in your union As the programme of reorganisation of Aberdeen City Council enters the third year of the five year transformation programme, It’s more vital than ever to be a member of a trade union – only when we work together in UNISON can we fight unnecessary and ideological austerity, as local authorities continue to face massive challenges to our ability to deliver services in the face of year on year budget cuts. We need more of our members to get involved in the branch to help us deal with the changes that lay ahead.
Increasing the number of stewards available to represent people is a key objective for 2020. Being a steward means that you are entitled to statutory time off to represent colleagues, are given five days of specialist training, and can learn lots of new skills. This is a really rewarding way to be involved in your union and understand more about how employment issues affect us all. A mentoring programme will also be in place to support you to be a proactive steward in your work place.
Take part in our AGM this year Whether you’re an activist or not, you have a voice in your union. We are a democratic organisation that relies on its members to tell us what they want. You’ll hear about what we’ve been doing this year, our plans for the year ahead, vote for who is on the branch committee, and get to have your say about the big issues affecting us all at work. All officer reports will be available on our website 14 days beforehand. We look forward to seeing you there!
